Hip Pain

Why Does My Hip Hurt?

Hip pain is a common issue with various potential causes. Often, patients report hip pain that actually originates from other areas, such as a hernia or groin injury. Although the hip is a robust joint capable of enduring repeated motion, hip injuries can have significant effects because nearly all body movements involve the hip joint.

Cartilage in the hip can wear down, tendons can become overused, muscles can fatigue, and the hip bone can fracture from falls or similar injuries. Pain felt on the outside of the hip, buttock, or thigh is often due to injuries involving tendons, ligaments, and muscles in the hip region. Dysfunction in the sacroiliac joint (SI joint) can also cause pain in the lower back, buttock, hip, or even legs, resembling the pain of sciatica.
